Luke and the Restoration of Israel

Question for you: I’m going to record an audio series covering a subject in a lot of detail. I have a few subjects in mind, but I thought I would get your input. What would you like me to cover?

Luke 1-3 sets up Jesus’ entire ministry around the restoration of Israel. Here are a few passages:

“For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy while yet in his mother’s womb. “And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. “It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Luke 1:15–17

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His will have no end.”

Luke 1:32–33

“He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy, As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Luke 1:54–55

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of David His servant— As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old— Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES, And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US; To show mercy toward our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant, The oath which He swore to Abraham our father, To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Might serve Him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

Luke 1:68–75

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on BEFORE THE LORD TO PREPARE HIS WAYS; To give to His people the knowledge of salvation By the forgiveness of their sins, Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us, TO SHINE UPON THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Luke 1:76–79

And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Luke 2:25–26

For my eyes have seen Your salvation, Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, A LIGHT OF REVELATION TO THE GENTILES, And the glory of Your people Israel.”

Luke 2:30–32

At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Luke 2:38

In this audio, I go over these verses! Hope you enjoy.

  1. Daniel, your overview of the first three chapters of Luke is extremely informative. In fact, I plan to share with with the congregation that meets in home each week. I will listen again to this recording tomorrow (1-22-21). Your study teaches individuals on how to read the Bible. Your comments on the resurrection or restoration is right on target. Your ministry goes beyond your local congregation. God is using you in a wonderful way to reach out to the saved as well as those who have not accepted Jesus as Lord. One of your ministries has to do with my website: freedominchrist.net. I thank you that you were and are willing to assist me in my own personal ministry. Seventy-years ago today (1-21-21), I delivered my first sermon. Your ministry is a tremendous asset to me in my outreach. I am still in a learning stage.

  2. Daniel, I listened again this morning (3:48 am) to your audio. If you don’t mind, I would appreciate your giving a link to this particular study under your name on our site: freedominchrist.net. As stated yesterday, this is an excellent summary of the restoration/resurrection of the remnant of Israel, which restoration included Gentiles. Once more, I thank you for the development of freedominchrist.net. God is working in both of us for the furtherance of His Kingdom and the strengthening of His believers. Yours because of Calvary, Dallas Burdette
